Vietnam Qualifier Concluded

The ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND 2019 Asia CS:GO Open saw the first qualifier for Vietnam, held from August 17th - 18th at Viking FPS Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam.

This year, dozens of teams from across the country were able to qualify starting with two online open qualifiers. Last years' champions, Revolution, were seeded as the invite team to the closed qualifier. Through the two closed qualifiers, three teams were eligible to qualify for the national LAN event that would determine the one team representing Vietnam in Shanghai.

The Vietnam scene has always been an interesting one, having put Asian CS:GO on the map back in 2015 when their most famous player, Ngo "crazyguy" Anh Cong, was made known to the world through his skillful play. Since then, however, we have yet to see the Vietnam teams display their mastery to an international audience outside of the continent.

Coming into the national LAN finals, Revolution were the favorites to win, as they have the most accomplishments coming out of their country. Since last year, the team has made several changes to their line-up, however, the core of Rambutan, Tee, Jaybk and fog have remained a pillar of confidence in the success of this team. At last year's grand finals in Shanghai, the Vietnamese squad lost out in the group stages, winning only their one game against the infamous OpTic India which were disqualified for having a player cheat, an event that still haunts us until today.

To say it was an easy road for Revolution to qualify is an understatement. In the BO1 double-elimination format for the LAN qualifier, they faced off against two strong teams which were not easy victories. The first game, against a mix team known as 363 Bach Mai, Revolution took the map, Mirage, 16-12. In their second game, facing off against the number two team in the country, Revolution barely made it away with a score of 16-14 on Mirage. Team SHIFT were sent to the lower bracket where they proved that they deserved to be in the BO3 grand final versus Revolution.

It was in the grand final that we saw more from the teams, and Revolution lost their first map, Inferno, 10-16. With a one map lead, it looked like we could see an upset at the event and feature fresh faces in Shanghai. However, Revolution proved their worthiness and did not falter, taking the series 2-1 over SHIFT after beating them on Mirage and Dust2, 16-6 and 16-10 respectively.

This will be the third eXTREMESLAND event for some of the Vietnamese players, and we are excited to have Revolution qualify to this years event once again.
